the history of My world of Faerie

"So, why don't you elves have magic?" he asked, his voice scornful and haughty. Fiona looked at the unseelie elf uncomfortably, wondering if he would lash out at the disrespect in the human male's tone.
instead he looked at her and took a deep breath.

"Elves have no true magic, although most have a grasp of glamour. Glamour is a strong illusionary, bordering on transmutative form of magic that uses the energy around an object to change it. This is because elves were not originally of the faerie world." Although he was answering the boy's question, he was looking at fiona. "Listen close girl, you are about to get a history lesson about Faerie" He said the last word differently than he had before. When he said faerie, he pronounced it like "fairy" but when he said it again, he stressed the last vowel, making it sound like fair-ee, with a hard e.

"There was a time, when two world were one. Earth, the world we know today and the world Faerie. Now known as 'the other world' or 'the never never', these two worlds were together for a long time. The original beings of Faerie, logically called faeries, lived freely in this world. But then another race descended into being, the human history called them 'Tuatha de Denann'. They were the children of gods. We simply called them the shining ones. For a short time, all three races existed in harmony; human, shinging, and faeries. When the shining ones began to breed, a new race was born. It was slow at first, but this was the start of the elves. Those that were born to faeries were would later become court fae. Those born to the humans would become the gentry. When faeries and humans bred they simply produced faerie children, whose blood was diluted and held less powerful magic. As more time went on, the elven race became stronger and evolved into a daughter race, but a full race of its own.

Then humans began to get greedy. The elves began to have their own ideas of how things should be. The races began to but heads. Over the next hundred years, things grew worse. The humans began to have their own societies and even began to try to conquer elven land. The humans were even finding ways to battle the strongest and fiercest beings from Faerie, the dragons. Dragons were already rare, but when one was killed, it was the breaking point." His voice held an anger, that Fiona actually understood. That dragon had been but a baby, and the death hit many lives deeply. She had to fight back the urge to cry. No one knew she had been in contact with a dragon, but she found it hard to hide her emotion when Pyro's son's untimley demise was mentioned. Not after she had felt how much love her mentor had for the little one. Seeming not to notice, or brushing it off if he did, the dark elf continued his lesson.

"Soon it became apparent that to prevent a war, the two worlds should be separated. The Shining ones went back to the realm of the gods, and the elves retreated to the land of Faerie. This change was greeted differently by different faeries. Some chose to stay in the human world, residing in nature; kelpies and selkies for example. Others chose to stay in the human world because they felt the humans only needed guidance, these were the brownies, hobs, and other house guardian fae. All of these beings possessed magic, even if only small traces, where as after becoming its own race, magic had all but left the elven bloodlines, leaving only glamour to them.

The faeries that remained, scattered, the original faeries at least. Their children, those that had diminished magic, stayed with the elves and went on to form the two faerie courts. From here on out when i say faerie, i mean beings who possess magic from their connection to the world of Faerie. Kelpies and the like have since lost most of their magic due to their separation from their home world, although like elves they still possess glamour. This is why it is punishment to be cast out and into the human world, because it slowly drains away magic and poisons us with its iron infested air." His voice took on a tone of disgust.

Fiona had the urge to correct him, the hob that had found her still had magic. He had said that the faerie world, or Faerie, never abandoned those who truly belonged within it, and that he could go home any time he wished.

"When i speak of true faeries, i will be referring to the original beings of Faerie, although there were many at first, now they are so scarce they almost seem like myths to us as well. Although royal and court faeries have magic, it is nothing compared to the true faeries.Lets call them major faeries for simplicity. The majors are actually the courts' biggest threats. Some say that the true ones blamed the elves for the separation. Many majors were distraught at the idea of abandoning the humans to their own demise. It is actually belived that many died from their sorrows, and were reborn as humans over time."His brow furrowed as he seemed to find the right word...

"It is believed they did this to come and guide the humans. Most wouldn't have any remembrance of their former lives as true faeries or of Faerie. Such is how reincarnation works. We believe that many of your so-called saints were reborn true faeries." he was quiet for a a moment, seeming lost in thought. When he finally spoke again his voice was soft, holding hints of remorse.  "Many fae, both solitary and courtly, felt the loss when the true ones died. it was as if Faerie itself mourned them, its children. As penance, the fae, both elves and minor faeries, slowly started to integrate into the human world. Granted we can only do it for short amounts of time, and mostly we stay in rural and natural places, were Faerie still has weak ties. But we interact with you. Some seek to help, while others blame the humans for it all and seek to punish. Many, like the princeling here," he motioned at the seelie prince, "seek to understand humanity completely and totally immerse themselves into human life and society. Even going to... university? " He said it like it was a dirty word, but the prince just gave a curt nod, giving fiona a small smile.

"So you freaks are everywhere?" Taylor said, his voice dripping with venom. Fiona felt herself rise in anger, feeling offense, even though she herself was technically human. Her first thoughts had been how dare he speak of my people like thus? before she remembered, they weren't her people. Not anymore. In a flash, the unseelie fae had drawn his rapier and had the blade at the human youth's throat; but it was the prince that spoke, his normally kind voice that constantly held laughter was surprisingly cold.

"Mind your tone boy if you want to live." He slowly rose his hand to signal the other elf to remove his blade, but was all but ignored. "Listen boy," the dark elf spat, "your kind don't deserve to reconnect with ours. Not everyone is a half wit pacifist like him over there." He pressed the sharp blade harder into the now terrified boy's flesh enough to break the skin and draw a line of crimson.

"The number of those who wish to bring the worlds together again are far below the number that would rather ignore or enslave you all. i am part of the latter group, so do not test my patience." He finally withdrew his weapon and sat on the boulder beside fiona again.
